Introducing Belyus...

Description

As promised in my most recent journal entry, I would be unveiling a major OC character from the sequel Sailor Moon story currently I am wrapping up at my local anime convention here in Portland. Twice that weekend, I underwent the metamorphosis of writer to actor, wearing, quite literally, the mask of Belyus.

So who is he, really? He is one of the five Sage Stars of Sailor Cosmos, who are in fact sailor soldiers whom, like Endymion, are uniquely men. Chaos explained this to Jadeite in the current story, stating that as Cosmos ran from their fated battle in the future, she split her own crystal into six, hiding the five among the distant stars of the galaxy, placing them in men that they would not be so easily found by her sister Sailor Chaos.

Belyus was a humble storyteller when Chaos came against his world not far into the future. His sailor star was so unique, like Endymion that normal combat was impossible. Worse, Chaos knew what he was and he understood that she had come for him. With no way to fend her off or shield his people, The kind Belyus was finally cornered and subjugated as a minion of Chaos.

Before his fall, he was able to pull of one final noble act; using his Sailor power, which was invoked by the stories he told, he wrote the names of as many people as he could onto sheets of paper made from the great world tree on his planet. After this, he ground the pages into a find sand and hid them in a vial in his cane, hoping to seed the grains into the pristine waters of "a world bathed in light," that his people might be saved.

His mind was shattered shortly after that; he was marked with the red crescent we know know belongs to Chaos and his free will was sealed behind the jester's masquerade mask he wears and can never removed. He is then forced into a coupling with a tainted senshi infused by Chaos to bring her into a physical body through a child, whom like Sailor Saturn grows at a rapid pace. Once this is accomplished, Belyus is sent to Crystal Tokyo to test the defenses of that holy metropolis of Earth. He is among the first enemies our champions of love and justice must deal with.

Chaos has a wierd sense of humor; since Crystal Tokyo is served by both King and Queen, and as our sailor soldiers stand as princesses in this court, she fashions Belyus into the likeness of a court jester, as if to complete the court. Further, Belyus can only speak in rhyme, so this is how he communicates to the other characters in the story.

"Behold this pretty world, left in light all to fester! My name is Belyus, Chaos Court Jester. A question oh questions! A game, what fun! One question from each, then the killings begun!"
Belyus, to Neo Queen Serenity

He's an annoying fruit, and I'm sure the rhymes will end in all do time, but the mask will be undone by the love of just one. (Dammit, see how it goes, starting to rhyme, and lost in its throes!)

Anyway, and all the rest, Belyus might find redemption, just in time to face the troubles that come. Will you all be game to follow yet another insane year of Way-chan's Sailor Moon shenanigans?

Photo was taken by a friend at Kumouri Con 2009. "Quin" mask and theatrical cosmetics was obtained from a cool website stationed in Bellevue, Washington and was hand crafted by Morgan. Belyus could not have existed without their patient understanding of a thirty-something Sailor Moon fanatic trying to be a cartoon.
